Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey has endorsed fellow Republican Kari Lake in her bid to replace him this November in a conciliatory move signaling that the time for the Arizona Republican Party to unite is now.

Despite having previously supported Lake’s opponent, Karrin Taylor Robson, in the primary, Ducey tweeted Saturday that it was important for Arizona Republicans to “unite behind our slate of candidates” given the significant issues facing their state.

“As co-chairman of the Republican Governors Association, our organization is already active on the airwaves supporting Kari Lake’s candidacy,” he noted. “Congratulations to Kari on a hard-fought victory and to all the candidates who will be carrying the GOP banner in November.”

The governor continued: “We have three months to go and a lot of work to do to ensure Arizona remains a beacon of freedom and prosperity. The first part of the election is over — now conservatives and Republicans of all stripes have to work together to finish the job in November!”

The call for unity followed a hotly contested Republican gubernatorial primary race in which the battle between frontrunners Lake and Robson was also viewed by many as a face-off between the Republican establishment and the “New Right” that supports President Donald Trump’s America First movement.

“We call it the New Right – the New Republican Party,” Lake said in a recent interview with Wayne Dupree. “We do not back down from the fight. We stand up and we fight back.”

In July, Lake described the rise of the New Right as a “new era in politics” — one that would be characterized by unity, not division.

“My goal for Arizona is to expand freedoms for EVERYONE, regardless of race, political background, or whether they hate me or not,” she tweeted. “I don’t hold grudges. I keep promises. All I ask for is your vote.”

On Friday, she repeated those sentiments while offering an olive branch of her own to others who wish to defeat the Democrats this November.

“This is the new Republican Party, the party of we the people, and we’re welcoming anyone in who loves America,” she told RSBN at CPAC in Dallas. “We welcome anyone in who is tired of these failed policies of the Democrats. We welcome them into this party.”
